Educational Materials Review Policy
Guideline Review
A. Criticism of the educational materials shall be submitted to the superintendent of schools in writing on the form provided.
B. The complaint will be considered by a review committee appointed by the superintendent. This committee shall include the librarian, teacher, principal, parents and such others as may be considered helpful. The complainant will be invited to attend the meeting of the review committee to give testimony.
C. The review committee shall make a recommendation concerning the material to the superintendent within one month from the date on the Citizens Request for Reconsideration of Educational materials. The recommendation shall be one of the following:
(1) Remove the material from student use.
(2) Retain the material for restricted student use.
(3) Retain the material for general use.
D. The superintendent shall inform the complainant, in writing, of the decision of the review committee.
E. If the complainant does not accept the action of the review committee, the complainant may appeal that decision to the school board by requesting a hearing before the board within one month from the date of the superintendent’s notification of the review committee’s recommendation.
